The furniture doesn't fit — until you check

Most furniture buying mistakes happen because people eyeball it. The wardrobe looks like it'll fit. The sofa seems about right. Then it arrives and the door opens into it, or there's 30cm of walking space on one side of the bed.

Drawing the room takes about 5 minutes. You enter the wall lengths in millimetres. Place the door and mark which way it opens. Add the window. Then drag in the furniture from the catalog with the actual dimensions — not approximate, the real size. You see immediately what works and what doesn't.

How to plan a room — step by step

  1. Measure the room. You need the four wall lengths, the door width and position, and the window position. Takes 5 minutes with a tape measure.
  2. Draw the walls. Open the editor, click the wall tool, enter each length. The room closes automatically.
  3. Add the door and windows. Click on the wall where they go. Set width and swing direction for the door.
  4. Place furniture. Open the catalog, pick an item, set the dimensions to match the piece you're considering, and drag it into position.
  5. Check it. Is there walking space? Does the door open fully? Can you open the wardrobe doors? If something doesn't work, move things around and try again — takes seconds.
  6. Download. Export a PDF if you want a printout or to share with someone.
